Paisley Buddie Nicole Perry has signed up to cycle The Tour 21 alongside a team of 20 other amateur riders to take on the full Tour de France route, raising over £1 million for Cure Leukaemia, the official Charity Partner of Tour de France in the UK.

On Friday 24th June, one week ahead of the professional race, Nicole and the team will cycle all 21 stages of the Tour de France – which has been hailed as the most gruelling endurance challenge in the world – a challenge which measures an impressive 3,300 km in distance at an elevation of 50,000 metres.

In an interview with PaisleyRadio.com, Nicole said ‘My mum is a blood cancer survivor. She had
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma – a form of leukaemia – in 2010, and thankfully is still here with us today. Cure Leukaemia are an incredible charity. Their own story is amazing. They started as a small regional charity and have managed to grow and expand across the UK, offering life saving drugs that aren’t available on the NHS, and to date have saved more than 2,500 lives.’

Starting in Cophenhagen, The Tour 21 will take the team through Switzerland into the Alps and the Pyrenees, down in to France before finishing in Paris in a 23 day challenge which offers only 2 rest days, under the same conditions as the professionals, cycling roughly 180 kilometres a day.

Nicole’s fundraising target is £30,000, of which she has already raised £23,000. She explained ‘to participate in the challenge is £30,000 and I am cycling with a group of 20 other amateur cyclists. Together we aim to raise £1 million collectively. I have raised £23,000 to date and am still gunning for the £30,000. I have been blown away by the support of friends, family, contacts, local businesses and complete strangers’, Nicole continued. ‘I raised £8,000 alone after my first post went viral, with 2.5 million views and 20,000 likes on LinkedIn. My dad is my marketing manager in Scotland, and has been working hard to get in touch with a lot of local businesses from where I grew up in Paisley, and I cannot believe that there’s so much support out there’.

With only £7,000 left to be raised, you can donate any amount you like to help Nicole reach her target and the whole team achieve theirs. Head to justgiving.com/nicole-perry-tdf22, find Nicole on LinkedIn under Nicole Perry or Instagram and Twitter @_NicolePerry. ‘No matter how small. It could be £5 or it could £10 here and there. Collectively, we can all do something amazing together by raising this money and saving people’s lives’.
