A GROUP of hardy ‘soles’ stepped into the firewalk hall of ‘flame’ at Braehead to raise money for charity.

Almost 20 intrepid volunteers took part in a red-hot firewalk fundraising effort for the Ronald McDonald House Glasgow, in the event hosted by Braehead Shopping Centre and Braehead Arena.

The Ronald McDonald House provides cost-free living accommodation just minutes from the hospital wards for families of seriously ill children being treated at the Royal Hospital for Children, in Glasgow.

It was the first time Braehead has hosted a firewalk and the centre’s community development manager, Lydia Brown said: “Well done to the brave firewalkers.

“People often say they would walk over hot coals to achieve something, well these volunteers literally did that for a great cause.

“We were delighted to host the event because the work of the Ronald McDonald House Glasgow is so important to young hospital patents and their families.”

Ross Clift, Community Fundraiser at Ronald McDonald House Glasgow said: “Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you and well done to our brave supporters who took on the firewalk as well as their incredible friends and family who donated to their challenge.

As the donations still roll in, I’m proud to say we have already raised more than £4500 for the House. This means our brave supporters will have provided over 100 nights of accommodation for a family when their child is seriously ill in hospital.

“As a fully self-funded charity, events like these are so vital to allow us to provide our essential service.

“Thank you so much to Braehead Shopping Centre and Braehead arena for making this possible.”
