Lorna

Background

Lorna Callery-Sithole is an award-winning, working-class, multi-disciplinary poet, visual artist, storyteller and Slam Champion from Pollok. Her work has appeared in Magma, Glasgow Review of Books, New Writing Scotland, Best Scottish Poems and Causeway/Cabhsair.

Lorna’s poetry is about unsilence; themes include class, poverty, gang culture, racism, enslavement, loss, love, motherhood, disability and mental health.

Poetry collections; ‘Pigeon with Warburtons’ (Speculative Books, 2019), ‘Colour Theory’ (Hybrid Dreich, 2022), ‘Facing Our Past: Shining the Light’ (National Trust for Scotland, 2022), and ‘the girl with heaven in her hair’ (Art Riot Press, forthcoming, 2026).

Storytelling shows include ‘Inheritance’ (the Village Storytelling Festival 2024) and ‘Slaver Nation’ (Scottish International Storytelling Festival 2025).

She is co-founder of ‘Versaye!’, a spoken word cabaret promoting emerging talent alongside established writers. She is a member of Off-Page visual poetry collective and is an Open Book Lead Reader at HMP & YOI Polmont. She has held residencies at the National Trust for Scotland and HMYOI Polmont.

In April 2025, Lorna founded Art Riot Studio. An award-winning, multidisciplinary arts space in the heart of Paisley, delivering a range of art classes to children and adults, promoting art for all. In January 2026 she will launch Art Riot Press, publishing the very best in contemporary spoken word and visual poetry alongside Art Riot Live, a monthly spoken word and music cabaret. Lorna hosts Art Riot Sounds on Paisley Radio, your weekly culture fix, showcasing emerging and established talent across the visual art, music, and poetry scenes in Scotland.
